About the Institution
Bezmialem Vakif University is one of Türkiye’s leading higher education institutions, distinguished by its deep-rooted history and health-focused academic structure. The University traces its origins to the Bezmialem Gureba Hospital, founded in 1845 by Bezmialem Valide Sultan, the wife of Sultan Mahmud II. It officially began its academic journey in 2010 under the name “Bezmialem Vakif University.” As one of Türkiye’s first thematic foundation universities dedicated to health sciences, it carries the pioneering vision of Bezmialem Valide Sultan into the present day.
Our University is committed to producing scientific knowledge and educating healthcare professionals who are responsive to the needs of the modern age and guided by strong ethical values. It aims to become a nationally and internationally respected health sciences university that leads and contributes to society.
Ethical responsibility, a scientific approach, a people-centred perspective, participation, and social contribution form the foundation of our institutional values. Among the key qualities that distinguish Bezmialem are its specialised education in the field of health sciences, its distinguished academic staff, its accessible campuses located in central Istanbul, and the high employment rate of its graduates. The University also provides students with opportunities to gain international experience through global mobility programmes such as Erasmus+.
Supported by the General Directorate of Foundations, our University continues to preserve and carry forward the humanitarian and cultural legacy of its founding institution, Bezmialem Gureba Hospital.
